So far during 2016, guests at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) have been brought to a variety of different worlds. Some of the ones I have been taken to are 1960s skid row, a boogie wonderland, Austria at the dawn of World War II, the junkyard of Jellicle Cats, a troubled high school in the 1980s and France on the Dawn of Revolution. But from now until June 28th, QPAC will be exclusively about delivering immersive / creative worlds and experiences for children aged eight years and under. As of now… Out of the Box Festival 2016 is underway.

Having been curated by QPAC on a biennial basis for the past twenty-four years, Out of the Box is an arts festival exclusively dedicated to children aged eight years or less. The 2016 program sets out to reflect the diverse multi-cultural community of Australia, with particular focus on Indigenous history and Asia/Pacific cultures. In total this year will feature seven productions, eighteen workshops and twenty free activities. This is further broken down into seventeen world premieres (Including Stalker Theatre Production’s Creature: An Adaptation of Dot and the Kangaroo, Queensland Ballet’s Little Red Riding Hood, and Imaginary Theatre Production’s I See You.”) and a range of other Australian premieres.

The festival was opened earlier today by Ms Jennifer Howard MP, Member for Ipswitch and Assistant Minister for Local Government, who was representing the Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk.
