North American anime publisher Sentai Filmworks have today confirmed they now hold rights to the anime Vampire Hunter D. The first in a series of films adapted from the light novels written by Hideyuki Kikuchi between 1983 and the present day, Vampire Hunter D depicts a post-apocalyptic nuclear wasteland where pain and suffering run rampant, where vampires and their prey roam the earth.
Toyoo Ashida (Fist of the North Star) served as the series’ director, with a screenplay by Yasushi Hirano, character designs by Yoshitaka Amano, music from Tetsuya Komura and animation production by Ashi Productions.
While no release date has been officially confirmed to date, there will be a home video release of Vampire Hinter D in the future. Distribution through selected video on demand services is also set to begin soon.
