The clock strikes midnight on Thursday 19 November 2026 – after an incredibly long wait Grand Theft Auto VI is now officially released, and you are greeted by not the game – but a whopping 212GB download before you can dive in. Perhaps for some it is a matter of “Well I have waited so long already, what are another few hours?”, while others may find themselves irked (to say the least). In hopes of mitigating such a scenario, Rockstar Games has confirmed that pre-load for the game begins on Tuesday 10 November 2026, ahead of its launch on Thursday 19 November 2026, and that it requires 212GB of storage.
On PlayStation 5, pre-download opens at local midnight on 10 November for players who have pre-ordered the game. PlayStation recommends clearing at least 212GB of space on the console beforehand for anyone who needs more room.
For those playing on the PlayStation 5, Sony Interactive Entertainment has also outlined a few other steps to take before launch day. New PlayStation players should create an account and sign in on their console, while existing players are advised to check that their sign-in information and account details are up to date.
The game can be pre-ordered through the PlayStation Store or participating retailers, which is required to access pre-download. The PlayStation Store lists the available editions and pricing, including the Grand Theft Auto VI: Ultimate Edition, which comes with an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel and action tied to all parts of Jason and Lucia’s story.
