Battlefield Waltz, the otome visual novel developed by Idea Factory, is now available both physically and digitally for the Nintendo Switch in North America and Europe. The title can be purchased via the Nintendo eShop, with special physical editions available via the IFI Online Store. Additionally, a launch trailer has debuted (below), providing one last sneak peek at the cast of characters from the elite military academy, Nirvana. Battlefield Waltz includes Japanese voice acting with English subtitles.
First released in Japan on the PlayStation Vita in 2014, Battlefield Waltz follows the story of a young woman who loses her village and father in a single day. Gaining a mysterious and powerful sword rumoured to be cursed, she is drawn into a life on the battlefield. Her journey brings her to Nirvana, a military academy where individuals of all backgrounds train in combat. There, she begins to rebuild her life, meeting new people, forming connections, and discovering a sense of belonging alongside her sentient sword.
The game includes several features aimed at enriching the visual novel experience. Map Exploration allows players to interact with characters across two distinct areas—the Royal Capital Frontier and the Nirvana School—unlocking unique dialogue and backstory. Chronicle Mode enables players to review their progress, explore alternate routes, and replay key scenes to uncover multiple endings. Additionally, Ancient Memories mode becomes available after specific conditions are met, rewarding players with a visual record of all achieved good endings tied to the game’s central magical sword.
