The map of The Legend of Khiimori just got a lot bigger. Publisher Mindscape and developer Aesir Interactive released The Mongolian Expanse Update for the open world survival adventure, and it is available now for the game’s Early Access version on Steam and the Epic Games Store.
The update pushes past the previous edge of the map into two new regions, the Snowy Mountains and the Desert. Both come with new waystations, Yam nodes, named places, chests and bandit caches to find. This is only the first part of the expansion, with more of Mongolia set to open up in the next update.
New wildlife is roaming these areas too. Wild boars, gobi bears and camels now appear in the world, including in herds, and players can track and hunt them or choose to keep their distance.
As the game is built around horses, there are also additions on that front. The Marwari joins the roster as a tough, agile breed from distant lands, suited to both heat and cold, bringing the total number of breeds to six. There are also more than 60 new horse skills, with rare and Legendary skills tied to specific regions and specific breeds. Once found, these skills can be bred into foals. The update also includes a range of gameplay improvements and fixes.
For those yet to try it, The Legend of Khiimori is set in 13th-century Mongolia, with players taking on the role of a courier rider. Alongside building a bond with their horse, players can breed bloodlines with specialised abilities and travel across steppes, frozen mountains and deserts inspired by Mongolian history and mythology. Mindscape and Aesir Interactive say they plan to continue shaping the game alongside its community during Early Access.
The Legend of Khiimori is available in Early Access on Steam and the Epic Games Store, and can be wishlisted on Xbox and the PlayStation Store.
