Ubisoft Acquires Rights To MOBA Title March Of Giants From Amazon

Perhaps not on the bingo card of 2025 for many gamers, Ubisoft has confirmed their acquisition of the rights to March of Giants from Amazon. This agreement will see the Montreal-based development team responsible for the project transfer to Ubisoft. The transaction is expected to close by 16 December 2025, although specific financial terms regarding the deal are not being disclosed.

March of Giants is a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game that seeks to combine lane-based combat with hero coordination and battlefield mastery. Following a closed alpha testing phase, the team is currently preparing a significant update for the title. This future content is set to introduce new giants, expanded competitive modes, and foundational systems designed to support long-term growth. As part of the acquisition agreement, Amazon will retain involvement by providing marketing support for the game on Twitch.

The project is led by Creative Director Xavier Marquis and Senior Production Leader Alexandre Parizeau, both of whom have previous ties to Ubisoft. Marquis is known for his role as the original Creative Director of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, while Parizeau formerly served as the Managing Director of Ubisoft Toronto.

While the market for MOBA games has been there for many years now, with a few dominating titles in the market, it is a genuine question whether a new game can break into the playtime of gamers who enjoy such games.

Ubisoft Co-Founder and CEO Yves Guillemot commented on the potential for the title to assist the company in competing within the MOBA genre;

March of Giants has a real opportunity to bring something fresh and dynamic to players, and to help Ubisoft compete in one of gaming’s biggest arenas. We’re looking forward to welcoming back Alexandre, Xavier, and many of the seasoned March of Giants team who have previously worked at Ubisoft, and the entire team’s ambition, creativity and talent align perfectly with our desire to build bold new experiences for players. We look forward to supporting them as they shape the future of this promising new IP.

Creative Director Xavier Marquis expressed enthusiasm regarding the return to the publisher where he produced previous works:

Returning to Ubisoft brings things full circle. We built some of our most meaningful work here, and we’re excited to continue developing March of Giants from within Ubisoft. This game has enormous potential, and I know Ubisoft can help us take it to the next level.

Senior Production Leader Alexandre Parizeau also added:

My thanks go to Amazon for their commitment during the first chapters of March of Giants. Our closed alpha was an important milestone and showed a glimpse of the game’s real promise. Now, by joining Ubisoft, we’re uniting behind a shared vision to build March of Giants into one of the next great, enduring MOBAs.
