Been hunting for your preferred brand of TCG card but packs are virtually inaccessible? While it may not allow you to chase your real-world card game of choice, Rip It! Card Collector is looking to capture much of the same pack-opening thrill, without having to fight anyone for the last booster on the shelf. Developed and published by Cybernetic Walrus, the studio behind Order 13 and Roadside Research, the newly announced PC game turns collecting, sorting and selling virtual cards into a steadily expanding operation. Its goal is simple on paper: fill a binder containing 1,809 cards.
Players begin by ripping packs open by hand, checking each pull and sorting new finds into their collection. Duplicates can be sold, with the proceeds fed back into more packs and equipment as the hunt for missing cards continues. The collection spans common finds through to rarer and more elusive pulls, giving completionists plenty of empty binder spaces to chase. Cybernetic Walrus has also teased secret promos and other hard-to-find cards, so simply opening enough packs may not necessarily make the road to a complete collection straightforward.
Rather than spending the whole game manually opening packs, players can invest their earnings into machines and other equipment designed to accelerate the process. What begins as a relatively humble workstation can eventually develop into a much more elaborate card-processing setup, with upgrades helping players open packs, handle cards and keep their collection moving. For players who prefer to work through a collection at their own pace, there are no timers pushing progression forward. The emphasis instead sits on the repeated satisfaction of opening, sorting and gradually filling every remaining space in the binder.
Rip It! Card Collector is currently announced for PC via Steam. A release date has not yet been confirmed.
