2K and Firaxis Games premiered the opening cinematic for Sid Meier’s Civilization VII during The Game Awards 2024. Accompanied by a live orchestral performance, the cinematic was narrated by Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones, Star Wars) and featured music composed by GRAMMY-winning composer Christopher Tin.
The cinematic seeks to explore the theme of history as a series of interconnected layers. Beginning with a lone farmer uncovering a rusted saber, it traces the weapon’s journey through different cultures and eras, symbolising the shared heritage of humanity. The full version of the cinematic is available online for viewing.
The event also introduced the main theme for the game, “Live Gloriously”, composed by Christopher Tin. Speaking about the piece, Tin remarked:
With ‘Live Gloriously,’ I wanted to capture universal themes of hope, heroism and mortality that have resonated across history. You’ll hear words from The Iliad, Beowulf, Popol Vuh and Ramayana, delivering a beautiful sense of gravity and emotion that embodies the story of humanity.
Sid Meier’s Civilization VII is scheduled for release on 11 February 2025. It will be available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, and Mac and Linux via Steam.
