FromSoftware and Bandai Namco Entertainment have announced Elden Ring Nightreign, a standalone multiplayer co-op action-survival game set in a parallel universe to Elden Ring. The game is slated for release in 2025 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam. Following the success of Elden Ring and its respective DLC as a challenging action-RPG experience, does changing tact slightly have the potential of continuing the franchises’ legacy as a rewarding experience to play? Time shall tell.
Elden Ring Nightreign focuses on player cooperation in a harsh, ever-changing environment. Players can form squads of up to three or take on the challenge solo as they navigate the region of Limveld, surviving a three-day-and-night cycle filled with relentless challenges and escalating threats. Each session culminates in battles against powerful bosses, including the ultimate showdown with the Nightlord on the third night.
Players can choose from eight unique characters, each equipped with distinct abilities and Ultimates. Throughout the game, decisions around combat, exploration, and resource management will play a crucial role in survival. The dynamic nature of the game ensures each run is different, with shifting maps, evolving enemy encounters, and randomized rewards. Progression is tied to both success and failure. Successful runs bring players closer to defeating the Nightlord, while failed attempts grant relics that can be used to enhance and customise characters. The map also features Sites of Grace, where players can level up and strengthen their characters for future challenges.
