Developer Gentleman Rat, in partnership with publisher tinyBuild, used the recent PC Gaming Show to unveil their new game project, titled Critter Cove. The game is touted as a calming life simulation venture, set within the serene surroundings of an island town.
Critter Cove seeks to offer players with a mix of exploration, crafting, and community building. The game is centred around rejuvenating a tropical island town and restoring it to its past splendour. Players can indulge in creating their ideal paradise, uncover hidden treasures, and collaborate with an array of characters in order to establish Critter Cove as a noteworthy destination.
In addition to the life simulation aspect, Critter Cove incorporates elements of town management. Among the array of activities, players can delve into a submerged city to unearth scarce resources, hunt for relics to populate a museum, and craft various items that will aid in further exploration both above and below the sea.
Jason Holding, the lead programmer at Gentleman Rat, expressed the team’s enthusiasm for the game, highlighting its appeal to a wide range of players:
We can’t wait for players to dive into the world of Critter Cove! Whether you’re an adventure-seeker or someone who enjoys a relaxed pace, you’ll feel a real sense of community building up the town with our cast of critters. Critter Cove isn’t just about the town, though – we want players to always have one eye on the horizon; the next discovery, the next settler or treasure map!
Promoted features of Critter Cove include:
- A tropical open world setting dotted with islands to explore.
- Wrecks and submerged ruins filled with treasure to donate to Critter Cove’s growing museum.
- Upgrades and full customisation to the town and your ship, allowing for more exploration and new vendors to move into the cove.
- Fishing, swimming, crafting, building and resource gathering in a cosy relaxing adventure.
Critter Cove is planned to release on the PC via Steam Early Access in Q4 2023, with PlayStation and Xbox ports planned for sometime in 2024.
