In Star Citizen, those looking to fly across the stars in style have quite a few options of ship to choose from – often from the in-game ship manufacturer Origin Jumpworks – including the 890 Jump, 600i Exploration and the 400i. But when you are looking to travel across the surface of a planet in style, there are no real options on the table… at least… until now. As part of Invictus Launch Week, pledge scales have commenced on the Roberts Space Industries Lynx, (Also going by its shortened name the RSI Lynx), pitched as a Luxury Rover which seeks to provide rugged defence combined with a hint of luxury.
As Humanity continues to conquer the stars, RSI is paying dues to those that helped us reach them in the first place.
RSI rovers have driven countless Naval pioneers to climb higher and push farther. To celebrate the millions of miles explored behind the wheel, we are proud to introduce the luxurious-yet-ruggedly-capable 2953 Lynx rover.
No matter where your adventures lead you, with the Lynx, you’ll have the comforts of home anywhere you roam.
Promoted features of the RSI Lynx include:
The Comforts of Home: Rugged adventure meets high-end luxury in the Lynx. Traverse any corner of the ‘verse with the confidence that you’ll be travelling in comfort and style.
Sensational Views: The cabin provides unimpeded views of the Lynx’s surroundings via extra-large windows, reinforced so that your tours aren’t interrupted by errant debris or projectiles.
Safe and Secure: You never know where your adventures may lead or what may be waiting over the next ridge, but you can rest easy in a fully enclosed, ultra-safe cabin.
Anywhere You Roam: With the Lynx you can take the adventure anywhere. Designed to fit perfectly in a Constellation Phoenix, the rover’s compact frame also accommodates transport in a wide variety of larger ships.
In terms of specs, the RSI Lynx comes in at 7.75m in length, 5.7m in width and 3.15m in height. It features two S1 weapons, has a maximum speed of 30 m/s and supports a whopping 2x Crew and 2x Passengers.
Being a land vehicle, the RSI Lynx doesn’t have anywhere near as many features as a normal spacecraft, nor even a snub fighter – especially in the state of Star Citizen’s long-term alpha development at this moment. Fortunately, they haven’t used the concept of “luxury” to boost up its price. The Lynx is available for a standalone warbond price of $60.50 USD (feat. lifetime insurance during this pledge sale), while those using store credit can nab it for $66.00 USD with 10-year insurance during this period. Upgrades are also available, carrying across the insurance period of the ship you upgrade from. Those interested can read more HERE.
In development by Cloud Imperium Games and their studios across North America and Europe, Star Citizen is being helmed by Wing Commander (1990s) creator Chris Roberts. The game has currently been in a long-term alpha phase with no confirmed release date. Despite this, the studio has raised more than half a billion USD through on-going crowdfunding. Please keep in mind should you decide to purchase towards Star Citizen, that this is an incomplete project and that you are pledging towards an extended crowdfunding campaign with no 100% guarantee of a finished product.
