Marvel’s Avengers Confirmed As Launch Title for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X

Free Next-Gen Console Upgrade Program Announced

Not impacting the game’s current-generation release plans of 4 September 2020 on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC platforms; Square Enix has today confirmed Marvel’s Avengers shall be available at launch for the next-generation PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X gaming consoles.

This might raise a red flag about whether one should wait a few more months to pick up the game, but fortunately, those worries have been addressed from the start. Those who purchase a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One copy of the game will be able to upgrade to their respective next-generation platform at no extra cost, with save data being transferred across. The exact mechanics around how the free upgrade will be managed, especially with physical copies, have yet to be confirmed. Whether you make the move or not, cross-generation play will be supported across platforms by the same manufacturer.

The next-generation releases of Marvel’s Avengers will feature improvements which take advantage of their increased capabilities. Focusing on the PlayStation 5, Square Enix has said: “The PlayStation 5 experience will be seamless and dynamic, fully utilizing the ultra-high speed SSD, the PS5 DualSense advanced haptics, and immersive spatial audio. To fully customize their visual experience, PS5 will also provide players with their choice of Enhanced Graphics Mode or High Framerate mode”. More specifics will be shared about the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions at a later date.

A further look at Marvel’s Avengers is planned for 24 June 2020 at 10.00am PDT as part of the Marvel’s Avengers War Table digital stream, available to view via the game’s official website.
