Next Star Citizen Concept Sale to Begin Next Week – MISC Prospector

Fans of the Musashi Industrial & Starflight Concern (MISC) line of ships in Star Citizen have sure been fortunate the past few months. Not only was the MISC Freelancer given a visual overhaul and made flight ready just before Christmas last year, but the MISC Starfarer has very recently become Hangar Ready. For those who haven’t had a chance to see it yet, it is a giant, 100m long monstrosity and is the currently the largest in-engine ship by a considerable margin. But news has emerged that even more could be on the horizons from the transport/industry oriented ship manufacturer.

Mining with the current line-up of ships in Star Citizen could be mighty pricey. While others could possibly be outfitted with mining equipment through the modularity system, the only mining-oriented ship to have gone to a concept sale is the Roberts Space Industries Orion. Proving to be 1.7x the size of the MISC Starfarer, this ship is 170m in length, and was available for $325.00 USD. This is likely to be out of the budget (they are willing to pledge) for many I would assume, and would no doubt have a hefty in-game price to match. This is compared to other space simulation games like EVE Online where mining is a basic skill that is a viable means for newcomers to make money.

But fortunately, Cloud Imperium Games are set to take a new, cheaper mining ship to concept sale. This is all thanks to the in-universe ship manufacturer MISC and their new MISC Prospector. An announcement made by Disco Lando on the official Roberts Space Industries forums have confirmed that the MISC Prospector concept sale will begin on April 22nd 2016 at an introductory price of $140. This might not be introductory level as you might call an Aurora, Mustang or a entry-level dogfighter, but it is nevertheless $185 cheaper than RSI Orion.

Of course, most if not all ships sold pre-launch will be available in-universe once the Persistent Universe component of Star Citizen launches. You can begin the game in an entry level RSI Aurora (or any other ship for that matter) and build your way up to this or something greater. While I have a couple, I for instance plan on taking my first steps in the Drake Herald.

If you are new to Star Citizen, I recommend checking out the free flight event which has been hinted as taking place this weekend.

Plan to sign up for Star Citizen and take your first steps in the Verse? Enlist using the referral code STAR-JCS6-3943 and you will earn yourself an extra 5,000 UEC to spend in the Voyager Direct store. As you might already expect with a referral system, I receive a few perks as well.

  1. Is this a joke??? They are selling expensive ships but there is no game to play in. I think this is insane. The Emperor has no clothes folks. It’s like World of Tanks selling me a tank for my garage, but I can’t drive it anywhere because there is no game to play it in. Am I missing something?????

    • Mostly, the game is being sold currently under the reputation of the person developing it. The same way the Telsa model 3 has a huge number of presales despite the fact that the company has never produced cars on that scale based upon the faith in Elon Musk to deliver. Chris Roberts is known for the scope and technical achievements he has made in past games he developed in the space and this built him a huge fan base that supports this endeavor. Some acknowledge that risks exist and feel they can afford to take the risk based upon their own personal assessment of the risk/reward value involved. Others simply go on based upon blind faith and some simply jumping bandwagon with little or no awareness of risks.

Personally, I spent as much as I felt I could safely lose to promote a genre and the potential personal enjoyment that I could potentially gain based upon my past experiences with games developed by the leader of this development team.

      • Matt, I appreciate the insight and views. Yes, I am aware of Roberts reputation and Wing Commander was a classic game. I hope he can deliver such an ambitious game. I am a natural skeptic. Again, thanks for the insights. I see your points.

  2. I agree James, all the money they have already generated and yet money not game development seems to be the focus. This game has me excited and has so much potential but I am beginning to have my doubts about it truly becoming something substantial. Time will tell and the clock keeps ticking away.
