Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2 are set to receive a well deserved remaster later this year exclusively for Playstation consoles by Square Enix. Back in March the company released their last screenshots for the game that focused on the original “X” installment in the series, and two months later they are finally focusing on the “X-2” installment, which takes place on events two years later where Yuna, Rikku and new character Paine travel around the land of Spira as sphere hunters, only to find a recording of someone who looks like “him“.

The screenshots highlight the character models which they have attempted to bring to current-gen console quality and offer more facial expressions. It also highlights the environment and background designs which they have also redrawn – joined by pre-rendered movie sequences such as Yuna’s concert of Real Emotion and 1000 Words which have had a well deserved resolution increase for this version.

Final Fantasy X-2 did come with very mixed reception and while being set in the same world as Final Fantasy X did feature several new gameplay systems such as a free-roaming aspect almost from the start of the game, the replacement of the turn-based battle system to an active time battle (ATB) system, and the ability to shift character classes through dresspheres – into both classic and some not so classic ones.

The Playstation 3 release will feature both X and X-2 as part of a single disc bundle, while gamers who prefer to pick up the Playstation Vita version will have to buy the two games individually. There is no word if they are just doubling the price of the Playstation 3 version or if the Playstation Vita edition will come with a dearer value.

Fun Fact: Having entered the RPG scene pretty late in my early-gaming journey, Final Fantasy X-2 was the first game in the Final Fantasy franchise I played.
