Madman Entertainment’s Top 20 Anime Releases Survey – #4: Death Note 1

Over the last month or so, Madman Entertainment have been asking their fans to vote for their favourite anime releases from the company (Along with other releases which due to their diversity, most likely won’t make it into this top 20) and giving away on-the-spot prizes to those who provided interesting vote justifications. The intention of this is to generate what fans would consider the companies Top 20 series releases.

While many of the more recent placements have been surrounding the morning anime series such as Bleach and Naruto, this time we have a series which has aired a couple of times in the nightly slots on ABC (??). Placement #4 has gone to Death Note, a well known series that I myself have enjoyed and while not having done a review of it yet – own the complete series of.

Here is what the team at Madman had to say:

At its core, DEATH NOTE challenges us to confront our morality. As Elizabeth Eaton wrote: “There aren’t too many anime or even films out there that so brilliantly show the inner workings of a serial killer with a god complex.”

Light wants to make the world a better place, and he’s willing to do what needs to be done with the power that is given to him. We all have thoughts and fantasies about what we’d do given “power” and DEATH NOTE enables us to explore the darker aspect of how power corrupts – from the comfort of our living rooms.
