Last year, The Arts Centre Gold Coast launched the Glitter Festival, which at the time was promoted as the Gold Coast’s inaugural Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer and A-Sexual festival (although everyone supportive of these communities were invited to partake in the week-long festivities). Their 2015 line-up featured a variety of events, from a Fun Run and Race Day, to a highly memorable performance of Liza on an E by Trevor Ashley. While it is returning for a shorter period this year, Glitter Festival 2016 is set to be held across four days in October.
According to The Arts Centre Gold Coast, “The support from the local community, media and artists for Glitter in its first year was outstanding and the festival looks to grow on this foundation in 2016”. It continues to be committed to being a nationally recognised arts festival which “embraces diversity, encourages freedom of expression and celebrates the unique personality of the Gold Coast”.
While shorter, the Glitter Festival team have claimed that this four day extended weekend format will satisfy the hunger for an event which celebrates all that is great about the Gold Coast.
The full event calendar launch is still several months off, and will be unveiled on August 1st 2016. However, we do know that the event will kick off on the evening of Thursday 6 October and run until Sunday 9 October. There will also be some form of complementary programming which will commence on October 1st.
