Square Enix have announced that Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward will begin its official release worldwide from today, serving as an expansion pack / successor to their 2013 release of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. With this expansion, players on the PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and (for the first time) Mac will be able to collaboratively explore the land of Eorzea and everything new it has to offer.
Following from from the storyline presented in A Realm Reborn, Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward features a new story that plunges adventurers into the heart of the Dragonsong War, the bloody thousand-year conflict between the knights of Ishgard and the dragons of Dravania.
Adventurers are able to take advantage of a number of new features including an increased level cap (50 to 60) for all disciplines, a new playable race (Au Ra), three new jobs for all players to enjoy (Dark Knight, Astrologian and Machinist) and a plethora of new dungeons, raids and primal battles.

FINAL FANTASY XIV: Heavensward marks the beginning of the second season of our journey through the vast FINAL FANTASY XIV universe. Having laid a strong foundation in A Realm Reborn, we are extremely excited that Heavensward will build upon this with new and diverse gameplay and content that continue to be the hallmarks of the online FINAL FANTASY experience.
Heavensward will not be a free expansion pack, and can be purchased for all platforms for $39.99. There will also be a physical Collector’s edition available for $129.99 and a digital Collector’s Edition for $59.99. Those looking to start their journey in Eorzea can also purchase Final Fantasy XIV Online, the new all-in-one bundle including both A Realm Reborn and Heavensward – which is available for $59.99. Do note that comparable to online games like World of Warcraft, a monthly subscription is required to play this game.
