Bringing The Division to a new audience and a new set of screens, Ubisoft has officially released Tom Clancy’s The Division Resurgence, a free-to-play third-person RPG shooter, on mobile platforms globally. Available on both iOS and Android, this is a joiner game chronologically situated between 2016’s Tom Clancy’s The Division and 2019’s Tom Clancy’s The Division 2.
Set within an urban open world New York City during the Green Poison outbreak, the game features a standalone campaign where players take on the role of an activated Division agent. The narrative focuses on the period when social institutions begin to fail and various factions compete for control. Players have the option to complete missions alone or in a cooperative team consisting of up to three other agents.
The gameplay seeks to incorporate various RPG elements, including five distinct specialisations: Demolitionist, Bulwark, Field Medic, Tech Operator, and Vanguard. Each role features unique gadgets and signature weapons, and players are permitted to switch between these roles to suit their team’s requirements. Combat involves facing four different enemy groups, including the Raiders, Rikers, Cleaners, and a new faction known as the Freemen. This new group is characterised by their use of improvised weaponry and a focus on scavenging resources.
Several features have been included to assist with the mobile experience, such as a Bootcamp tutorial designed to introduce the cover system and basic commands. The game also includes the Dark Zone, a PvPvE area focused on high-stakes extraction, and Conflict, a dedicated competitive mode where players must control the map within a set time limit. Open world activities allow for securing outposts, rescuing hostages, and completing weekly quests.
For players reaching the end of the initial content, various endgame activities are available. These include the Legendary Challenge, which allows for replaying main missions at an Ultimate Difficulty setting, and the Lone Wolf Challenge, which serves as a training mode for earning higher-tier rewards. Additionally, a clan system has been implemented, allowing players to upgrade facilities and contribute resources to unlock further functions.
Creative Director Jonathan discussed the development goals of the project, highlighting the intention to provide a unique mobile entry for both existing fans and new players:
Built from the ground up for handheld devices with an all-new story and mobile-first features, The Division Resurgence offers a fresh experience for both longtime fans of the franchise and newcomers alike. We can’t wait for players to explore this new chapter of The Division
