HST Game Studios, in collaboration with indie publishing platform indie.io, has released the second chapter for the horror title SCP: Fragmented Minds – which is one of many games based on the fascinating SCP creative writing universe. This free update for Early Access players is currently available on Steam and introduces a significant expansion to the game’s setting.
The new content moves the setting deeper into the Site-113 facility on Mars, adding 15 new zones for players to investigate. Notable additions include the North Wing, a location that shifts its layout as players move through the story, and a puzzle-centric area known as The Forest. These environments are used to further the narrative regarding the SCP Foundation’s unsuccessful operations on the planet, with the story delivered through cinematic sequences, environmental cues, and audio logs. A new character has also been introduced to provide more context for the overarching plot.
Several new entities have been added to the facility to increase the variety of encounters. Players will now face SCP-966 and SCP-149, along with an additional mechanical adversary and an iconic, unannounced SCP entity. The update also includes side content such as a storyline involving SCP-049.
To navigate these new threats, several gameplay systems have been overhauled or introduced. The new EL2 Wrist Device allows for vertical movement and quicker repositioning during combat. Players can also utilise Scranton Reality Anchors, which provide the ability to stabilise or alter the surrounding environment. Other additions include a skill tree for player customisation, an armor system, and a dynamic infection mechanic that adds persistent difficulty to the experience. Weapons can now be upgraded and crafted to better suit different playstyles. Many of these changes were made in response to community development, and are expected to be intergrated into earlier parts of the game as it continues its development towards a full version 1.0 release.
