Xbox has shrunk its controller down to pocket size. The newly announced Xbox Nano Controller measures a little over 12cm long and weighs just 99 grams, making it the smallest controller Xbox has made, and pre-orders are open now ahead of a November release.
Despite the smaller frame, the Nano keeps all 18 standard gameplay inputs found on a regular Xbox controller, so the layout should feel familiar to existing players. Xbox is pitching it at younger players and people with smaller hands, as well as anyone after something easy to carry around. It is also being positioned as an affordable extra controller for family gaming at home, with Minecraft Dungeons II, which supports up to four players in local or online co-op, given as an example.
On the feature side, the Nano runs on a rechargeable battery and includes a programmable Action Button that can be set up for screenshots, gameplay capture or other shortcuts. It supports both Xbox Wireless and Bluetooth, allowing it to connect to a range of compatible devices.
Pre-orders for the Xbox Nano Controller have opened in select markets for $49.99 USD or local equivalent, with November launch regions including Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Czechia, Denmark, the Dominican Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Guatemala, Hong Kong SAR, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Panama, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Trinidad and Tobago, the United Kingdom and the United States.
