In a bit of celebration from Nippon Ichi Software America, the publisher has announced that Village in the Shade has surpassed 200,000 sales in Japan, while the upcoming international release has accumulated more than 200,000 wishlists on Steam. The announcement follows the game’s North American debut at PAX West 2026, where attendees had their first opportunity to play the game ahead of its worldwide release on 27 October 2026.
During the event, game designer Yu Mizokami and project manager Mio Katsumata hosted a panel titled “A Chat in the Shade”, sharing insights into the game’s development and creative direction. The pair also participated in a live drawing session, offering attendees a closer look at the game’s hand-drawn art style.
Mizokami reflected on the reception at PAX West and discussed the different ways players will be able to experience Village in the Shade.
We were absolutely thrilled to see so many people attend our panel, and it was especially heartwarming to see people lining up to play the game at the PAX West NIS America booth; we’re incredibly happy to see how warmly the community has welcomed it. Whether you enjoy it as a life simulation game or as a story-driven experience, we believe we’ve created something truly high-quality and are excited for the worldwide release of Village in the Shade!
Katsumata also shared her hopes for the upcoming release following the team’s appearance at PAX West.

Set in the Japanese mountain village of Kagatsu, Village in the Shade combines traditional farming simulation mechanics with a story centred around the village’s mysterious secrets. Players can grow crops, customise their homestead and develop friendships with the village’s residents. Other activities include relaxing by the brook, enjoying the cherry blossoms with neighbours and exploring the town.
However, life in Kagatsu comes with several unusual restrictions. Players are instructed not to speak to strangers, leave the village or venture outside at night, suggesting there is more to the seemingly peaceful setting than initially meets the eye. The game is currently available to wishlist on Steam .
