PQube and Wisageni Studio have released K-pop Idol Stories: Road to Debut, a life simulation game focused on managing an aspiring K-pop group. The game is available physically and digitally for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch, while Xbox Series X|S and PC players can purchase it digitally. The PC edition is available through Steam.
Rather than performing as an idol, players take responsibility for building and managing a group on its journey towards debut. Eight trainees are available to scout, including the cheerful Minji and shy Ai, with players able to select their preferred lineup and shape the group’s overall range of skills. Managing the group involves more than rehearsing songs and dance routines. Players must organise training, work commitments and downtime while monitoring stamina, finances and workload. Demanding schedules can leave idols at risk of burnout, while allowing too much time away from work can create financial difficulties.
Decisions made throughout the story also affect how each trainee views the manager. Developing different relationships can unlock new encounters and storylines, with player choices ultimately influencing the ending of the group’s journey. Other management responsibilities include selecting outfits, planning social media activity and organising the group’s debut album. Several minigames are incorporated into these activities, including talent scouting, vocal practice and rhythm-based dance challenges. Performance during these sequences can affect the group’s progress.
K-pop Idol Stories: Road to Debut features hand-drawn artwork, animated character expressions and an original soundtrack. The music also features exclusive songs and vocal tracks created for the group’s in-game debut.
