ALLEYSFIELD has announced that the second closed beta test (CBT2) for its upcoming street basketball game FREE DUNK will commence on 18 June 2024. This next phase arrives just six weeks after the initial beta concluded, expanding access to both players who register via the official website and those who apply through Steam Playtest. With CBT2, the developers aim to deliver a more polished experience by integrating player feedback and introducing new features across key gameplay modes. CBT2 notably debuts a new Team Mode, which replaces previous team management systems. This update also brings refinements to Arcade Mode, Custom Matches, and the user interface, all intended to enhance playability and depth.
FREE DUNK seeks to continue to build on its core philosophy of “unrestricted” street basketball, encouraging players to develop their own unique superstars and carve out a personal legacy. The game blends single-player Arcade Mode, where athletes are shaped through tailored training paths and skill unlocks, with a competitive PVP Arena that spotlights team play and individual flair in 3v3 matches. The goal is for each player to become the architect of their own on-court legend.
Arcade Mode sees major enhancements for CBT2. The progression system is now supported by a dual-track leaderboard, which records both overall player achievements and individual superstar growth. This system incorporates factors like win rates, teamwork, earned titles, and challenge completions to more accurately reflect each player’s technical mastery. Leaderboards are updated hourly, with quarterly resets and profile rewards for top performers.
A tiered honour system further defines a player’s journey, from earning medals for completing challenges and matches, to collecting stat-based crowns such as “Scoring King” or “Block King.” Players who achieve exceptional milestones may claim exclusive server titles that publicly recognise their skills and contributions to the community.
CBT2’s new Team System introduces expanded lineup management, replacing earlier modes and enabling the assignment of athletes to multiple independently named and customisable lineups. As players participate in Team Mode matches, they gain Team XP, which unlocks further lineup slots and strategic flexibility. A badge progression system adds another layer, with offensive, organisational, and defensive badges that can be equipped to boost abilities and support varied tactical approaches.
The Custom Match function also receives significant upgrades. Players can now host private games with fully customisable settings, such as court appearance, match duration, and victory conditions. Quick recruit features streamline team assembly, while plans for future updates will expand on player-driven match creation tools and spectator options.
User interface improvements address feedback from the first beta test. These updates include 360-degree preview options for player skins, a more intuitive player progression interface, and an overhauled tutorial experience to better guide newcomers.
ALLEYSFIELD describes CBT2 as an important step, not the end point, for FREE DUNK. The team is seeking feedback through Discord, customer support, and social media, reinforcing their commitment to collaborative development.
FREE DUNK is available to wishlist on Steam, with the second closed beta beginning on 18 June. Players interested in participating can register on the official website. The developers emphasise that feedback from this test will play a critical role in shaping the next stage of the game’s evolution.
