Supermassive Games, the studio behind popular horror titles such as Until Dawn and The Quarry, has announced a new addition to their The Dark Pictures anthology titled Directive 8020. This upcoming game, set to release in 2025 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, promises an immersive cinematic horror experience with a strong focus on survival and a branching narrative.
In Directive 8020, players are transported into a near-future where Earth is facing extinction, and humanity’s only hope lies 12 light-years away on the distant planet Tau Ceti f. The storyline follows the crew of the colony ship Cassiopeia, which crash-lands on the alien planet. The survivors soon discover they are not alone and must contend with a hostile alien organism capable of mimicking its prey. The crew’s struggle for survival forces them into a moral dilemma: should they sacrifice their own safety to save the entire human race?
The game features Hollywood actor Lashana Lynch, known for her roles in Bob Marley: One Love and The Woman King, as the pioneering astronaut, Young.
Supermassive Games aims to elevate the horror experience by introducing persistent real-time threats and new stealth gameplay mechanics. The game will utilise Unreal Engine 5 to enhance its interactive cinematics, providing players with next-gen visuals and dynamic storytelling.
