Offering another game within Sword Art Online video game chronology, Bandai Namco Entertainment has announced that Sword Art Online Fractured Daydream is currently in development, with a planned release date sometime in 2024. The game is pitched as their “first large-scale multiplayer-focused adventure” based on the franchise, and is slated for release on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam. The game is once again being developed by DIMPS Inc.
So, what can players expect from the next instalment in the video game series which brings together the series’ broader cast of characters regardless of their relevance to the anime or light novel work it is based on? Set in Alfheim Online, a new system is applied to the VRMMO, which ultimately malfunctions and causes all worlds and timelines to collide. All lost in uncharted territory, enemies become allies, departed characters are back and unlikely alliances will be formed to survive the dangers in this unsettled world.
Sword Art Online Fractured Daydream is being pitched as an all-star game, with a focus on large-scale co-op experiences. Bandai Namco Entertainment hopes players enjoy “playing their favourite characters from the first three seasons of the animated series and Sword Art Online movies, in a cross-play battle action game featuring thrilling boss raids and co-op quests”.
Registrations are now open for a closed beta test scheduled to commence next month from March 11th to 17th. Interested? Click HERE to express your interest. Expect to hear more about Sword Art Online Fractured Daydream before or during this period.
