The development team at Spooky Rabbitshave a playtest of their upcoming game, Model Kit Studio, currently live on Steam where you get to be in the shoes of a model builder, putting together and painting mecha kits. A new playtest is now available and it will run until 16th November 2026, with the full game launching on Steam in 2027.
Building is very much like a real model kit really. You cut out the pieces and build the model piece by piece, following the instructions as you go. The playtest contains two models to build: MeKS, a flying robot sidekick who’s always getting itself into trouble and Excavaclaw, a mining mecha for digging on planets and asteroids. Once built you can then go on to customise the model with brushes, airbrushes and decals and a hand vacuum is available to clean up any nubs.
When it’s time for a break you can wander round your workshop apartment. There’s a cat called Donut to meet, coffee to make, plants to water and a jukebox to play music on.
Model Kit Studio is due for a Steam launch in 2027.
