Bandai Namco Entertainment and developer FromSoftware have released their latest game, Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon, globally on a wide range of platforms including PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam. While it may seem hard for any project from the developer to top Elden Ring, this newest chapter in the Armored Core franchise, following 2012’s Armored Core V two console generations ago, seeks to offer players fast-paced mech action, intense omnidirectional battles, and an extensive range of customization options, along with engrossing boss fights.
Set in a futuristic world, the game’s narrative revolves around a mysterious new energy source called Coral, discovered on a remote planet named Rubicon 3. Initially hailed as a technological breakthrough, Coral instead led to catastrophic events that turned Rubicon 3 and its surrounding star system into a fiery wasteland. Now, almost 50 years later, various extra-terrestrial corporations and resistance groups are fighting for control of the resurfaced Coral on the desolate planet. Players take on the role of an independent mercenary, navigating this complex and dangerous environment.
Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon introduces several new gameplay features. Among these are intense omnidirectional combat capabilities, enabled by high-powered boosters that allow players’ mechs to jump, hover, and rapidly switch between long-range and short-range battles. Players are encouraged to make strategic use of these highly manoeuvrable machines to gain the upper hand in fights.
Customization plays a significant role in the game, offering numerous parts to modify and optimize the mechs’ head, arms, legs, torsos, and weapon slots. This allows players to fine-tune their machines to tackle the game’s challenges more effectively. A varied arsenal can be tailored to the players’ preferences and tactical needs, underscoring the importance of customization in gameplay.
Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon offers a fully standalone storyline, separate from the previous games in the franchise. The game features branching paths and multiple endings, single-player story-driven experience that can be enjoyed by series veterans and newcomers alike
