Announced last week, the fifth major expansion pack for Final Fantasy XIV, titled Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail, is set to launch in the middle of next year, providing a new multi-year set of updates for all Warriors of Light to embark on. As part of this announcement, it was confirmed that after having PlayStation console exclusivity since A Realm Reborn first launched almost a decade ago, Xbox Series X|S support will be introduced. With cross-play enabled, it is one of the few cases where full online game support is shared between three of the big four gaming platforms (PC, PS5 and XSX).
Final Fantasy XIV is set to receive its Xbox Series X|S support not with the expansion’s release, but instead as part of the Patch 6.5x series. This gives the port a tentative Spring 2024 (or Autumn 2024 for those in the southern hemisphere) release date.
The Xbox Series X|S port boasts 4K support and faster loading times, which will give it parity with the PlayStation 5 version, and take advantage of the system’s hardware. There is also an indication that an open beta will be coming soon, but when this will roll out has yet to be confirmed.
Having been part of the Final Fantasy XIV community on-and-off since A Realm Reborn, I have found a majority of the community to be welcoming regardless of your playstyle, whether you are a hardcore raider or just want to play the mini-games at The Golden Saucer.
