ZeniMax Online Studios and Bethesda Softworks have released the latest chapter in their long-running The Elder Scrolls Online MMORPG, titled The Elder Scrolls Online: Necrom. This new update sets out to offer players over 30 hours of fresh content, with the addition of two new zones to explore, a new ‘Arcanist’ character class to add to your parties, and a sinister plot to uncover that threatens reality itself. As with most of the major ESO updates, Necrom is currently only available to play on the PC / Mac versions, with availability on the Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 starting 20 June 2023.
The Elder Scrolls Online: Necrom is a continuation of the storyline introduced in the Scribes of Fate DLC. However, it should be noted that players are not required to complete or even own the previous DLC to fully engage with and enjoy what this new chapter brings.
One of the new zones to explore is the Telvanni Peninsula, home to the cunning mages of House Telvanni and the city of Necrom. This region, with its towering mushroom forests, is reminiscent of the environments found in Morrowind. The Telvanni Peninsula also offers several unique encounters, including side quests, world bosses, delves, public dungeons, and more.
Additionally, The Elder Scrolls Online: Necrom presents players with an opportunity to venture into Hermaeus Mora’s realm of Apocrypha, a mysterious part of Oblivion. Despite its near-limitless knowledge, the endless libraries of Apocrypha have been the downfall of many mortal souls. The chapter also introduces a new area of Apocrypha, Chroma Incognito, which, like the rest of Apocrypha, bristles with dangers and secrets.
The Elder Scrolls Online: Necrom also introduces a new playable class, the Arcanist, responding to popular player demand. The Arcanist, the first new class since the Necromancer was added in the Elsweyr Chapter in 2019, utilizes the forbidden powers of Apocrypha to deal damage, absorb attacks, and heal.
Moreover, Necrom offers a host of new challenges, including Sanity’s Edge, a 12-player trial, and a new world event, Bastion Nymic. Two new companions, Sharp-as-Night and Azandar Al-Cybiades, also join the fray in this chapter. Players can recruit, level up, and equip these companions, each bringing unique stories, combat skills, and questlines to unlock.
