Australian Classification Board Indicates Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends and the Secret Fairy Headed to West

The Australian Classification Board and Gust’s Atelier video game series has an interesting backstory behind them. Most notably, there was a sudden jump in rating from Atelier Rorona‘s original 2010 PlayStation 3 release (PG – Mild violence and infrequent coarse language) and Atelier Rorona Plus’ 2014 PlayStation Vita release (R18+ for References to sexual violence). While this occurred long ago, it turns out one more piece of news has emerged from the classifications board.

On 15 July 2020, the Australian Classifications Board published a notification that Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & The Secret Fairy had received a PG rating for “Mild fantasy themes and violence”. The thing is… this is the first time that anyone has heard of a sequel either in western markets or Japan.

The actual news of a sequel comes as little surprise given most chapters in Gust’s long-running Atelier series are released in sets of three. With the media type being listed as ‘Multi Platform’ however, this indicates we will see a multi-platform release on the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and Windows PC again – perhaps even the PlayStation 5.

Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & The Secret Fairy would be a sequel to 2019’s Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout, and will serve as the 22nd main Atelier game released. You can read more about the original game’s narrative below:

Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout follows teenage tomboy Ryza and her band of mischievous friends, Lent and Tao, who yearn for adventure and excitement far away from their mundane village life. As the group explores a forbidden island in search of adventure, they encounter a wandering alchemist, Empel, and his warrior partner, Lila, who change their lives forever. The duo agrees to teach Ryza the enchanting ways of alchemy, preparing her for a harrowing quest to save her hometown from a mysterious and deadly darkness lurking beneath the surface.
