[PS5 Showcase] Square Enix Announces ‘Project Athia’ From Luminous Productions

First formed in March 2018, Luminous Productions is one of the newer internal studios of Square Enix, consisting primarily of developers who worked on Final Fantasy XV. Based on its name alone, this team is focused on game development using the Luminous Studio Engine which has been used on FFXV and a handful of tech demos. During the PlayStation 5 showcase earlier today, Square Enix and Luminous Productions unveiled their first look at Project Athia (Working Title), which is described as “an other-worldly adventure” currently in development for the PlayStation 5 and Windows PC.

According to what has been provided by Square Enix, Project Athia will “harness the full power of the console and demonstrates Luminous Productions’ philosophy to provide a gaming experience like never before, fusing together the latest technology with art”. Furthermore, they aim for the game to “transport players to a world filled with beauty and dismay as they set upon a thrilling story-led, action-packed adventure which can be twisted, tempestuous and forbidding”.
