Every year, the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) holds many gaming-oriented conventions across Seattle, Boston, Melbourne, Philadelphia and San Antonio. Drawing both fan and professional audiences to the event in their thousands, these events offer both changes to play upcoming video games ahead of release and get industry insights from experts in the field.
COVID-19 has meant that several of these conventions have had to be cancelled, understandable given the uncertainty around international travel, allowed crowd sizes and even whether they would even be able to take place. Fortunately, however, this does not mean that gamers in North America or Australia will miss out on any form of PAX experience in 2020. It has been confirmed that both PAX West and PAX Australia will be merged into PAX Online.
Taking place from 12 September 2020 until 20 September 2020, gamers can enjoy content 24-hours a day across all nine days. Perhaps more importantly to some, PAX Online will be completely free of charge. More information on PAX Online is expected in the coming weeks as its calendar has yet to be locked down. Registration will not required as this is an online event, but you can receive the latest event updates HERE.
Despite the change in format, the creative teams at Penny Arcade and ReedPop hope this event will “[encompass] everything fans love about PAX Aus and West’s annual bash including surprising game reveals, hands-on demos, thrilling esports tournaments, a carefully curated selection in the Indie Showcase, as well as new partnerships bringing the virtual show floor to life“.
If you are interested in holding a panel, you have until 24 July 2020 to submit your application. Alternatively,if you are a developer looking to register for the PAX Online Indie Showcase, you can apply until 17 July 2020.
