Splatoon Splatfests Set to Conclude This Month, Coinciding with Release of New amiibo Figures

Final Splatfest 2

With millions of copies sold worldwide and a solid fanbase more than a year after launching, the colourful third-person shooter Splatoon has proven to be one of the highlights on Nintendo’s Wii U platform.

One of the community features present in Splatoon are monthly ‘Splatfest’ competitions, where over a short period of time, players can vote on debates by dominating the battlefield alongside likeminded individuals. Past debates have included ‘Pokemon Red vs. Pokemon Blue’, ‘SpongeBob vs. Patrick’, ‘Snow vs. Sand’ and more. But these are set to be discontinued at the end of this month… with Nintendo saving possibly the biggest question for last…

For the final face-off, Splatoon devotees have to make the ultimate decision and pick their favourite Squid Sister – Callie or Marie – then compete against other players from Australia, New Zealand, Europe and North America to claim victory. The battle runs from 7pm AEST on Friday July 22 until 7pm AEST on Sunday July 24, after which the global results will be tallied and the ultimate winner crowned soon after.

While Splatoon might be losing its monthly Splatfests, Nintendo haven’t dropped their plans for the title yet. On Saturday 9th July, new amiibo figures based on Callie and Marie will launch. The pair will be available in a special double pack (SRP AU$34.95), alongside new colours for the Inkling Girl, Inkling Boy, and Inkling Squid amiibo figures, available in a special triple pack in limited quantities (SRP AU$49.95). Tapping the Callie or Marie amiibo onto the Wii U GamePad grants the player a personal concert in the Inkopolis Plaza, with a range of songs to choose from, including one exclusive solo song per amiibo.

Haven’t tried out Splatoon yet? Nintendo Australia have confirmed they will be offering a 25% discount on the game’s digital Nintendo eShop version from July 8th to July 21st (Sale price: AU$59.95/NZ$74.95).
