Rayman Returns with More Side-Scrolling Gameplay in Rayman Legends

-

Rayman Origins released in 2011 walked away was first runner up in my Video Game of the Year 2011 awards ceremony, and after starting out on the Wii U and pretty much moving to every other console on the market its sequel Rayman Legends has finally hit store shelves in Australia. Currently available on the Wii U, Xbox360, Playstation 3 and PC platforms, the release schedule is to be complemented with a portable Vita release a fortnight from today.

Following Rayman Origins, our heroes take a 100-year nap, allowing nightmares to infest the Glade of Dreams. Once Rayman awakes from this mysterious sleep, he must set off on a new adventure with his friends to restore order in the universe. How do they alleviate this quest? Through up to five-player side-scrolling platforming with what looks to be once again very creative visuals and some interesting musical stages. Of course I will hold off on setting this claim in stone until my review next week.

image008Whether you are buying the game immediately or not, Ubisoft are throwing in something a little bit extra. To celebrate the launch of the game they have launched a Rayman Legends Beatbox app on the iOS and Android devices that allows fans to play with parts of the game’s soundtrack in two different mods – with a reportedly easy-to-use drag and drop interface.

The “Legendary Mode” contains three music tracks to play with from Rayman Legends. Each song is split into six instrumental parts that the user can choose to activate/deactivate for different effects. The “Creation Mode” allows the user to create their own songs with a rich library of instruments/melodies – 5 categories of instruments and up to 6 sounds per instrument – from Rayman’s universe to record their own creation, and then to share with their friends.

Granted it doesn’t sound nearly as interesting as the actual game, but may be worth a few minutes fun.
