In 2017, Australian theatrical producer Global Creatures launched Muriel’s Wedding the Musical together with Sydney Theatre Company at the Roslyn Packer Theatre, Sydney. As its title implied, it was a stage musical adaptation of the iconic 90s Australian film Muriel’s Wedding. It was well received during its initial Australian debut, walking away with ‘Best Choreography in a Musical’ and several other nominations during the Helpmann Awards 2018.
This year, Global Creatures brought Muriel’s Wedding the Musical back to Australia on a tour up the East Coast – starting in Melbourne’s Her Majesty’s Theatre and concluding at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) in Brisbane. The cast included Natalie Abbott and Stefanie Jones in the lead roles of Muriel Heslop and Rhonda Epinstall, with other cast members including David James as Bill Heslop, Stephen Madsen as Alexander Shkuratov, Pippa Grandison as Betty Heslop and Jarrod Griffiths as Brice Nobes among others.

While this season was during my hiatus and I was not able to get a review out for this production, I would like to share some of my own pictures taken during one of the show’s media calls. You can check out these photos – capturing two of the show’s songs – below.
Global Creatures is an Australian theatrical producer who is also involved in the development of new Australian musicals. Their previous work, Strictly Ballroom the Musical, to date is one of my favourite musicals. Their next production, Moulin Rouge! The Musical, is currently being performed on Broadway and will be headed to Melbourne in 2021.
