Magica Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story Simulcast Confirmed for Jan 2020 1

In exchange for the fulfillment of a wish, Magical Girls keep fighting, unbeknownst to the rest of the world.

But Iroha Tamaki can’t seem to remember her wish.

“When I became a Magical Girl, what did I wish for again?”

The story of Madoka Kaname may have come to a close, but there are stories of other magical girls to be told. To begin airing in Japan next month, Aniplex of America have confirmed that simulcasting will commence for Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story from 4 January 2020. Initially the stream will receive a week exclusivity on Funimation Now, before also being made available on Crunchyroll and HIDIVE from 11 January 2020.

Magia Record follows new protagonist Iroha Tamaki (voiced by Momo Asakura), who is in search of the wish that turned her into a Magical Girl. She is joined on her journey by fellow magical girls Yachiyo Nanami (voiced by Sora Amamiya) and Yui Tsuruno (voiced by Shina Natsukawa). Also appearing in the story will be the “adorable” mascot character Kyubey (voiced by Emiri Kato), Felicia Mitsuki (voiced by Ayane Sakura), Sana Futaba (voiced by Yui Ogura) and Momoko Togame (voiced by Mikako Komatsu).

The series is set in Kamihama City, separate from that of the original TV anime. This is an adaptation of the smartphone game of the same name, where viewers will unravel the mysteries of the city and the dark truth behind the rumours spreading amongst magical girls.

This darker magical girl tale will see the chief director of Puella Magi Madoka Magica Akiyuki Shimbou return as animation supervisor, while Gekidan InuCurry (Doroinu) takes over the role of Chief Director and Series Composition. Acclaimed animation studio SHAFT will be providing their experience, while Junichiro Taniguchi returns as character designer and chief animation director.

Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story will commence its simulcast on Funimation Now from 4 January 2020, followed by availability on other platforms from 11 January 2020.
