Following on from Disney’s 1994 animated feature, The Lion King musical has become the most successful stage production to date. After having productions held around the world over more than fifteen years, those residing in Queensland, Australia have finally had their chance to enjoy and appreciate all the creative work that has gone into it.
Since October 2014, hundreds of performances have been held at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC), with most if not all seats in these sessions selling-out. Those who have been reading The Otaku’s Study these past few months will know that I personally loved every element of The Lion King – giving it (★★★★★) in my review of it last year. Currently it sits as the highest reviewed anything on The Otaku’s Study in the past three months.
But all good things must come to an end, and in just one week’s time (January 25th 2015), the curtain will close one last time for its final session. Unfortunately all tickets have been sold for all remaining sessions, leaving myself completely envious of everyone who has managed to nab a seat for one last chance to watch it. After this, The Lion King will be on a brief hiatus and then re-open at the Regent Theatre in Melbourne from next month.
But with the musical clearly being popular in Queensland, let’s hope we won’t be left waiting another 15 years to enjoy it once again. QPAC will be replacing The Lion King with Wicked, a musical that shares the untold story of the Witches of Oz. I already have my tickets for next month, and look forward to sharing my thoughts on this new production as well.
The Otaku’s Study looks forward to sharing news and reviews on many upcoming stage productions across Australia in 2015.
