New Babbage in the Early Morning

As noted in my article earlier yesterday, Cloud Imperium Games’ crowdfunded space simulator Star Citizen has just received its Alpha 3.9 release. Available to all backers as of immediately, this update brings various new features and enhancements including weather locomotion, performance optimisations, new moons to explore, a prison system and a new ship. But arguably the most significant inclusion is New Babbage, a new, more sophisticated and chic landing zone.

While you could previously fly around New Babbage in Alpha 3.8 which featured an unfinished and unexplorable version of the city, this is a fully functional landing zone allowing you to spawn your ship, go shopping and enjoy the luxuries of futuristic modern life away from the smog of other company-owned planets.

Fortunately for those looking to take photographs, the controls over where you can fly are very lax in Alpha 3.9, meaning you can still fly up close to buildings and take the perfect snap. Itching for a new opportunity to take the Anvil Carrack out for a flight, I snapped these few photos while admiring the improved city exterior.

In development by Cloud Imperium Games and their studios across North America and Europe, Star Citizen is being helmed by Wing Commander (1990s) creator Chris Roberts. The game has currently been in a long-term alpha phase with no confirmed release date. Despite this, the studio has raised more than $250 million USD through on-going crowdfunding.

Take That (In-Game) Snap Daily Photo is an off-shoot of the Take That (In-Game) Snap article series, in which the first article focusing on Final Fantasy XIV was recently published. This looks at, celebrates and critiques how video game developers have implemented professional photography-like systems into their games. It will cover how the systems handle, just how accessible they are and, where applicable, how a modding community might be making these tools even better. With this Daily Photo spin-off series, I will be sharing individual photos from the games either covered or soon-to-be-covered.
