Over the last few weeks, Square Enix has shared a video series chronicling the development process of Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers. However, the episodes didn’t go into much detail about the 24-player Alliance Raid collaboration between FFXIV and Nier: Automata. This is because a special episode, which has now gone live, provides exclusive behind-the-scenes information about the design process of the first of three planned raids (The Copied Factory).
Involving Naoki Yoshida (Producer and Director – FFXIV), Yosuke Saito (Producer – NieR Series) and Yoko Taro (Producer – NieR Series), this video explores how this crossover came to be and what inspired the design decisions in the first part of the raid. It also hints at what’s to come in the two upcoming raids.
The second instalment in the Alliance Raid crossover – titled ‘The Puppet’s Bunker’ – will be introduced as part of Final Fantasy XIV Patch 5.3: Reflections in Crystal. This update is expected in the coming months, although it has been delayed due to COVID-19. More information on the update can be found HERE.
While there is no successor to NieR: Automata in development at this time, a remake of the original NieR is currently in development by Square Enix and ToyLogic for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC. More information on this remake can be found HERE.
