What a Beautiful Morning in New Babbage - Take That (In-Game) Snap Daily Photo 1

Star Citizen Alpha 3.9 is due to go live on servers very soon, with the first wave of PTU testers being able to try things out since yesterday. While the update does not offer as many new ships as recent quarterly updates such as the Anvil Carrack or the Origin 890 Jump, where it truly shines is its incorporation of the New Babbage landing zone. Following earlier landing zones which have followed the heavy-industrial design style, this is the first chic, and modern planetside hub players can land their ship and explore.

Loading up the Star Citizen PTU client, I decided to start immediately at New Babbage, and let out a shriek of happiness seeing the apartment I booted up in. Loading up all my screenshot gear, I share with you my first couple of minutes exploring New Babbage from as my character tours around their new digs (with a beautiful view of the city) and head out for a coffee.

In development by Cloud Imperium Games and their studios across North America and Europe, Star Citizen is being helmed by Wing Commander (1990s) creator Chris Roberts. The game has currently been in a long-term alpha phase with no confirmed release date. Despite this, the studio has raised more than $250 million USD through on-going crowdfunding.


Take That (In-Game) Snap Daily Photo is an off-shoot of the Take That (In-Game) Snap article series, in which the first article focusing on Final Fantasy XIV was recently published. This looks at, celebrates and critiques how video game developers have implemented professional photography-like systems into their games. It will cover how the systems handle, just how accessible they are and, where applicable, how a modding community might be making these tools even better.
