Nine Rocks Games and publisher THQ Nordic have officially unveiled their latest major gaming project – Way of the Hunter 2. Previously referred to by the working title “Next Hunting Adventure”, this sequel is built upon a new technical foundation designed to support the simulation experience for the long term.
A significant addition to the gameplay loop in this sequel is the introduction of a hunting companion. Players will be accompanied by a dog that assists in the field by locating animal signs and tracking the trails of fleeing game. It has been noted that this companion is not static; and players are expected to engage in constant training and exercise to improve the dog’s ability to respond reliably to commands.
The game launches with a setting based on the Canadian wilderness. This environment aims to host a diverse range of wildlife, including big game species such as elk, moose, bison, and bears, alongside smaller animals like rabbits, turkeys, and various birds. The narrative places the player as a new arrival in the region, tasked with assisting a local warden. The storyline spans two distinct environments and focuses on an investigation into unusual behavior exhibited by the local moose population.
Mechanically, Way of the Hunter 2 introduces an updated bullet camera system, allowing players to analyze shot trajectories in detail to refine their marksmanship. The progression system is tied to new Hunting Lodges, which serve as central hubs for the player. These lodges allow for the display of trophies and the unlocking of upgrades. Distinct lodges are available for each territory to visualize achievements specific to those hunting grounds.
To support the simulation experience, the title will feature licensed equipment from over ten real-world brand partners. This includes authentic recreations of hunting rifles, high-tech gear, and apparel.
