Electronic Arts and Battlefield Studios have officially revealed Battlefield 6, the latest entry in the renowned FPS franchise, during a global multiplayer reveal event. Promising to deliver the “ultimate all-out warfare experience”. Battlefield 6 will launch on 10 October for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC – the latter via Steam, EA App, and Epic Games Store digital storefronts.
Set in the year 2027, the game’s narrative presents a world teetering on the edge after a high-profile assassination fractures global alliances. Major European powers have exited NATO, leaving the US and its allies vulnerable, while a formidable private military force, PAX ARMATA, rises to fill the resulting power vacuum. In this new world order, the remnants of NATO must face off against a technologically advanced and ruthless enemy, setting the stage for both a global-scale single-player campaign and expansive multiplayer battles.
According to EA and Battlefield Studios, at the heart of Battlefield 6 are several significant gameplay innovations. The all-new Kinesthetic Combat System brings more dynamic movement and gunplay, adding features like Drag and Revive – allowing players to pull downed teammates to safety – and mounting weapons on walls for reduced recoil. The return of the class system will see Assault, Recon, Support, and Engineer roles, each with unique gadgets, signature weapons, and training that encourage team-based tactics.
Destruction is also set to return in enhanced form, letting players reshape the battlefield and open new tactical options. Launch maps span global locations such as Egypt, Gibraltar, and the streets of New York, each designed to suit multiple play styles and modes.
Classic multiplayer modes, including Conquest, Breakthrough, Rush, Team Deathmatch, Squad Deathmatch, Domination, and King of the Hill, are joined by a new mode called Escalation, where teams vie for control of strategic points. The game also sees the return and evolution of Battlefield Portal, a suite of tools for community content creation, now more streamlined for players looking to build and share their own unique experiences.
Players can get their first hands-on with Battlefield 6 during an Open Beta test, which will be live from August 9–11 and August 14–18. Early access is available on August 7 for those who watch select streamers. The beta will showcase multiple maps and modes across all supported platforms.
Battlefield Studios brings together talent from Criterion, DICE, Motive, and Ripple Effect. Byron Beede, Senior Vice President & General Manager of Battlefield, commented:
We knew when we set out to create the future of Battlefield, we had to nail the fundamentals of what players have loved about the series for more than 20 years. We’re back in our all-out warfare playground, with four world-class teams developing the game as a single squad known as Battlefield Studios. Criterion, DICE, Motive, and Ripple Effect have put their heart and soul into this next Battlefield and we’re thrilled to have shared our first look with you today and can’t wait to see you playing next weekend during the Open Beta.
Vince Zampella, Executive Vice President, added:
I’ve worked on a lot of titles over the years and can confidently say that Battlefield 6 is something special. We can’t wait to show more of Battlefield 6’s intense tactical combat and epic warfare in the months to come, leading up to its release on October 10.
