Heart Machine and Devolver Digital have unveiled a new glimpse into the world of Possessor(s), their upcoming action-platformer, during the Day of the Devs showcase. The presentation introduced players to Professor Foss, one of four major characters central to the game’s unfolding narrative. Once a teacher to the game’s protagonist, Luca, Professor Foss becomes a figure of intrigue as the story delves into mysterious experiments taking place beneath the ruins of a high school in the devastated Sanzu City.
Possessor(s) follows Luca, a high-school student who has survived a catastrophic event that left her city in ruins. She is joined by Rhem, a demon who escaped from the depths of Sanzu’s laboratories during the same event. The unlikely pair must navigate the surreal and fractured environment, learning to work together in order to uncover the truth and survive the city’s interdimensional threats.
Players eager to explore Sanzu can now do so through a publicly available demo on Steam. This early version places players into a city overwhelmed by otherworldly horrors and environmental collapse. The demo offers a first look at the game’s core dynamics, as Luca and Rhem explore areas like the Skyscraper and Park while forming their uneasy alliance. It also introduces the basics of the game’s combat and platforming systems, which combine fast-paced, precision movement with ground and aerial attacks. Players will begin to discover the unique mechanics that will define their journey through the full game, scheduled to release later in 2025.
Set in a sprawling, post-apocalyptic metropolis, Possessor(s) features hand-drawn animated characters layered over detailed 3D backdrops. From derelict skyscrapers to forgotten aquariums, the environments reflect the game’s haunting sci-fi horror themes. The narrative is open-ended, offering multiple paths and character-driven storylines as players piece together the cause of the disaster and the secrets hidden beneath the city’s surface.
The game’s combat system emphasises tight control and tactical engagement, encouraging players to master a range of combo-driven attacks and aerial manoeuvres. As Luca and Rhem explore further, they will gain access to new weapons and upgrades, expanding their abilities and allowing access to previously unreachable locations.
