Broken Mirror Games, in collaboration with Skybound Entertainment, has announced I Hate This Place, an upcoming open-world survival horror game set to launch in the fourth quarter of 2025. The game will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, with the PC version now available to wishlist via Steam should you be so inclined to.
Revealed during the Future Games Show, I Hate This Place is based on the Eisner-nominated comic book series of the same name, created by writer Kyle Starks and artist Artyom Topilin. Developed under a new horror label from Bloober Team – whose past works include The Medium, Layers of Fear, and Silent Hill 2 – the game hopes to draw players into a surreal and menacing world where the rules of reality are in constant flux.
In I Hate This Place, players assume the role of Elena, a woman who inadvertently awakens a malevolent force. Hunted and outmatched, she must rely on cleverness and resourcefulness to survive. Combat includes both ranged and melee encounters, with a focus on creativity over brute force. Players can craft essential tools, explore the environment, and reach safehouses before nightfall—when gameplay becomes significantly more dangerous due to a dynamic day-night cycle. Among the threats is the mysterious and deadly Horned Man, a figure players are advised to avoid at all costs.
Speaking on the adaptation, comic writer Kyle Starks shared his excitement, stating:
I love my book I HATE THIS PLACE – a labor of horror love with series co-creator and artist Artyom Topiln – so needless to say I’m thrilled to see someone bring it to life in video game form! I can’t wait to get my hands on this game and be trapped on the terrible ranch the book inhabits!
Meanwhile, Piotr Babieno, CEO of Bloober Team has also commented:
We are always looking to push the boundaries of horror in all its forms, and with this new title under Broken Mirror Games, I Hate This Place is a testament to that vision. With its blend of survival mechanics, gripping storytelling, and a distinct visual identity, we believe I Hate This Place will immerse players in a truly unforgettable nightmare.
