Screen Australia Announces $1.3 Million Investment in Local Games Sector

Screen Australia has announced a significant funding initiative aimed at strengthening the Australian games industry, with over $1.3 million allocated to support 23 new game projects, the ALT: Games Festival, and the participation of seven Australian developers at the upcoming Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco.

The investment spans a variety of projects, from emerging developers to established studios, supporting the development of innovative and original games. The funding will help creators refine their skills, transition from solo development to studio-based production, and move their games from prototype stages to full releases.

Joey Egger, the recently appointed Head of Games at Screen Australia, highlighted the importance of this funding, stating:

We’re thrilled that such an exciting mix of local titles and talent are being celebrated and supported by this investment. From intimate stories to challenging puzzlers, these games showcase our diversity, unique culture and game design expertise, and really demonstrates why we continue to excel on the world stage.

We also know the games sector is resilient, adaptive and tenacious, driven by a strong sense of connection and community. That’s why we are proud to support local events such as the ALT: Games Festival and for our gamemakers to forge impactful relationships here and overseas, to ensure their games get into the hands of players around the world.
