Ubisoft has released the first album of Assassin’s Creed Shadows Original Game Soundtrack, composed by The Flight. This album is now available on major music streaming platforms worldwide, and following the game’s launch on 20 March 2025, two additional albums composed by Teke::Teke and Thunderdrum featuring Tiggs Da Author, will also be released.
The Flight, a music duo consisting of Joe Henson and Alexis Smith, previously composed the score for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and have returned to shape the musical identity of Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Their compositions aim to blend traditional Japanese instruments, such as the Koto, Shamisen, Taikos, and Shakuhachi, with modern music techniques to reflect the game’s historical setting and character narratives.
Among the album’s notable pieces is Steel and Shadows, an action rendition of Naoe’s theme that features the Tsuchibue, Koto, Taiko, and vocals by Akari Mochizuki. This composition serves as a backdrop to Naoe’s internal struggles and noble aspirations as she navigates her journey.
Reflecting on their work, Henson and Smith shared:
Feudal Japan—a long-awaited setting for Assassin’s Creed fans—finally comes to life in Shadows, and we eagerly embraced the opportunity to re-enter the Animus and collaborate with Ubisoft Quebec. Our score follows the journeys of Naoe and Yasuke, blending the series’ sci-fi roots with influences of traditional Japanese music, featuring instruments such as Koto, Shamisen, Taikos, and Shakuhachi to create a unique and forward-looking sound. This project was an epic undertaking, and we poured our hearts into every step—from the earliest thematic sketches to the final orchestral sessions—hoping fans will enjoy the music as much as we loved creating it.
