Type-NOISE: Shonen Shojo, the debut title from developer Dank Hearts, has been announced for PC via Steam. This announcement was one of many made at today’s all-digital INDIE Live Expo 2024.
The game follows six teenagers who awaken in Noise Scramble City, a labyrinthine downtown area that reflects their internal traumas. Players will uncover how the characters arrived there and how they can return home by exploring an alternate reality rich in narrative depth. The teenagers suffer from amnesia, and players must seek out clues hidden in hallucinations and memory fragments scattered throughout the city. The environment, reminiscent of a distorted Tokyo, features diverse locales such as graffiti-covered sewers and haunted classrooms filled with marionettes.
Each character faces physical manifestations of their past struggles: Zena’s stubbornness, Hozuki’s jealousy, Honoka’s paranoia, Kaito’s low self-esteem, Hiyori’s vanity, and Soto’s codependence. Players will need to navigate these personal challenges to help the characters escape the maze-like city.
A key element of the game is uncovering the origins of Noise Scramble City through interactions with its peculiar feline host, the Spectre. Each puzzle solved brings the players closer to revealing the truth behind the teenagers’ predicament and finding an escape route from their psychological prison.
Commenting on this announcement, Dank Heart’s Director of Planning, Scenario and Character Design — MYU, shared:
In life, our own proclivities often lead to specific predicaments. Type-NOISE: Shonen Shojo is an abstract exploration of our own natures. There are many unexpected twists and turns in this narrative adventure, and we look forward to sharing more in the near future. Stay tuned!”
Type-NOISE: Shonen Shojo is currently in development for PC with support in English, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese. A release date has yet to be confirmed.
