eden* is shaping up to be one of the more exciting visual novels from MangaGamer in recent months, in no small way because money raised from it will be going towards a subsequent localization effort and to support further development for Minori’s latest visual novel Supipara. A total of $100,000 is needed to fund the localization, with any additional money raised going towards developing additional chapters which will be published in Western markets first.
To help them raise funds, MangaGamer are offering two separate versions of the game – an 18+ “adults” edition dubbed eden* PLUS MOSAIC and an all ages edition simply titled eden*. Both editions are available for pre-order via the MangaGamer online store, with copies set for release beginning January 30th 2015.
One of the big questions is whether you should consider picking up the all-ages or adults edition. A recent post on the official MangaGamer staff blog highlights the difference between editions.
Originally, eden* was released as an all-ages title that came with an optional 18+ expansion that added some depiction of violence and nudity to the main storyline. MangaGamer claim to be adopting this same approach, so don’t assume that they have simply decided to cut content out of the all-ages edition that keeps it unfaithful to the original Japanese release. As you can see from the image atop this post, there are occasions where the modification may be a simple CG artwork difference.
The only significant difference is that the eden* PLUS MOSAIC offers additional scenarios for each girl in the story. These scenarios offer the expected assortment of erotic content, however purportedly add a “certain something” to each character’s story. Therefore, it seems like the major difference between eden* and eden* PLUS MOSAIC is the omission of these additional chapters. So while you should expect the full experience either way, those who do opt to indulge in a few H-scenes will seemingly get a little bit extra in terms of character development.
