Since launching in the first half of November 2014, Sekai Project’s Kickstarter campaign for CLANNAD has surpassed even my expectations by raising more than $415,000 out of its original $140,000 pledge goal (With six days to go). It is clear that KEY’s visual novel will finally be headed to English-speaking markets for the very first time. Not only that, the public reception has also seen 3 out of the 3 stretch goals for this crowdfunder met.
This means that instead of receiving the visual novel in the format it was to originally be released internationally as, fans can now enjoy it with 1280×960 “HD Assets” ($200k Goal) and check out the formerly console-exclusive CLANNAD Side Story “Hikari Mimamoru Sakamichi De” chapters with full Japanese voice acting ($320,000). The latest milestone hit will also allow Sekai Project to work with some artists in Japan to put together a Kickstarter original anthology manga ($380,000).
CLANNAD is estimated at having a release date of October 2015, and will be available via both Steam digital distribution and a physical package. As of this post, there are no plans for any release of CLANNAD on consoles, despite ports existing on the PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.
