While there have been quite a number of visual novels released for the PlayStation 3 in Japan, very few ever make their way to the international market. One of the few which has today made its way to the North American market is Hakuoki: Stories of the Shinsengumi, published by Aksys Games.
Hakuoki attempts to bring not only beautifully drawn art to the big screen but an epic story of love, honour and betrayal. Not only will players be able to see the world through Chizuru’s eyes, Hakuoki: Stories of the Shinsengumi’s plethora of unlockable content allows players to read side-stories, learn about each of the main characters, and more, building upon the experience set by earlier installments in the series on portable consoles.
While the standard edition of the game is now available via the PlayStation Store and retail outlets across North America and tomorrow within PAL regions, the limited edition is set to ship from May 20th. The limited edition will also contain a premium box that is made to look like Japanese lacquer with a Hakuoki-esque motif, Japanese-style hair comb, replica Japanese love charm and a hair pin – all inspired by in-game events.
